Unusually for this side of the river, very Merlot dominant, but the rewards come with a ripe, fragrant and fleshy wine with seductive lingering notes of chocolate and vanilla….a great starting place to the Bruno Borie portfolio

Bruno, a man of wonderful charisma, a genius wine-maker seeking perfection and above all, one of the nicest Chateau owners I have had the pleasure in meeting.  His portfolio of wines centre around St Julien with  his flagship Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou (as pictured below), one of the finest but big bucks!  More affordable is its second wine, La Croix Beaucaillou which still shows all the class of the silky yet concentrated cassis tones.  Even more relevant to the restaurant scene within the accessible price bracket, he also produces wines at the Chateau where his mother was raised, Chateau Ducluzeaux in the commune of Listrac-Medoc
