Muscadet Sévre et Maine Sur Lie ‘Chateau du Cléray’, Domaine Sauvion
The Chateau du Cléray Sauvion, located in the heart of the Nantes vineyards, is one of the oldest estates of the Muscadet Sèvre et Maine region. Its sileceous and clay soil gives a late and full-bodied Muscadet. The dominant aromas are lemon, green apple, with mint and linden flower flavours.
THE WINES OF DOMAINE SAUVION: Eccentric – almost certainly . . . Brilliant – definitely. Pierre Jean is a true craftsman. Born right in the middle of the “garden” (as their vineyard holdings are known), wine fanatic Pierre-Jean spent his childhood literally surrounded by vines. This château, in the heart of the Nantes vineyards, has belonged to the Sauvion family since 1935 and, with its old vaulted cellars, is one of the most ancient properties in the Sèvre et Maine vineyard.
Robert Parker once said “…Sauvion is undoubtedly the best-known Muscadet producer… Sauvion’s consistent level of fine quality is undeniable as well as admirable.”
