In Jean-Claude Mas’ inimitable way, he took this estate under his wing and carefully protected the local terroir while putting the popular yet firm Domaine Paul Mas stamp on the style.
Costieres de Nimes holds a perception of sitting in the eastern Languedoc but in truth, sits on the western edge of the Southern Rhone found only marginally south west of Avignon.
Vineyard/Grape Varieties: Mediterranean climatw with big temperature variations between day and night. Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre. Selection made by plot
Winery: Temperature-controlled fermentation. Long maceration, 2 to 3 weeks, for optimal extraction of aromas and polyphenols. After malolactic fermentation, 40% of the cuvée is aged in American (70%) and French (30%) oak barrels for 6 months
Unsurprisingly reflects a blend true to the region – Syrah provides the core of black cherry/currant and liquorice notes, the Grenache an abundance of deep fleshy fruits, the Mourvedre completes a generous, ripe red with silky tannins and hints of balsamic.
