'Geografico' Vernaccia di San Gimignano DOCG, Borgo Alla Terra
Tasting notes
Geografico Vernaccia di San Gimignano has a lovely, understated elegance. Fresh white fruit fills the glass and lingers on the palate, while a light seam of minerality keeps it bright and focused. The finish has the characteristic saline twist that Vernaccia is known for, making this dry white wine wonderfully refreshing and very easy to enjoy with food.
How it’s made
Made from 100% Vernaccia grapes, this wine is fermented at low temperatures in stainless steel tanks. That gentle, modern approach protects the grape’s natural freshness and keeps the primary fruit flavours vivid and clean.
Food pairing
That salty, mineral finish makes Vernaccia a natural partner for seafood. Try it with grilled white fish, prawns, mussels or a seafood risotto. It’s also excellent with classic Italian dishes such as pasta with pesto, bruschetta, antipasti and soft cheeses like mozzarella or burrata, and it’s lovely on its own as an aperitivo.
Serving suggestion
Serve chilled, at around 8–10°C.

Frequently asked questions
What does Vernaccia di San Gimignano taste like?
Expect fresh white fruit, a mineral backbone and a distinctive saline finish. It’s crisp and dry, with more character than many everyday Italian whites.
Is Vernaccia a good alternative to Pinot Grigio?
Yes. If you enjoy fresh, dry Italian whites, Vernaccia offers similar crispness with a little more texture and that lovely salty, mineral edge.
What food goes with Vernaccia di San Gimignano?
Seafood, shellfish, pesto pasta, antipasti and fresh Italian cheeses are all excellent matches.
What does DOCG mean on an Italian wine?
DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita) is Italy’s highest wine classification, guaranteeing where a wine comes from and how it’s made. Vernaccia di San Gimignano was the first Italian wine to be awarded DOC status, in 1966, and was promoted to DOCG in 1993.
